New Season, New Beginnings!

8 May

Exciting new things going on in Custard House this week!
First of all here is a big congratulations to the amazing, locally produced Pretty Nostalgic Magazine who celebrates their first Global issue (7) this month. Congratulations! Here is the cover with one of my designs on it! This is an exciting new collection shot in a Bluebell Wood and is absolutely stunning in its styling (and I’m pretty chuffed about my designs as well!)
Secondly I have been been lucky enough to work in France every month where I get to have a play with some of the locally produced fabrics and to indulge in dyeing which helps as the sunlight there has been so beautiful.
Custards next stall is going to be alive and kicking at The Chipping Sodbury Fair on Saturday 25th July alongside the amazing Sumptuous Designerwear. If you are available please pop by and say hello to Cathy and I and check out our new Designer ranges.
Catch you soon!

Christmas at the Orangery

11 Oct

I’m thrilled to be exhibiting at this year’s Christmas at the Orangery. On Saturday, 15th December between 10 and 5pm you’ll find me at Bradbury Hall, Henleaze.  There are some lovely exhibitors. They’ve even written about me (thank you, Rachel Goodchild) – you can read the whole post here.  Oh and the entrance fee is only £1 (free to under 16s).

On the day I’ll be demonstrating some clever sewing techniques as well as fabulous ways to embellish and upscale your vintage finds. I’ll also be signing copies of my new book, “Thrifty Style” (a perfect Christmas present for the vintage lover and seamstress in your life). Come along and ask me about vintage, styling, eco design and personal shopping. See you there!

Thrifty Style by Janine Chisholm

2 Oct

It’s happened!  My book, “Thrifty Style – Clever ways to revamp your wardrobe” is officially out today.

The book is for you whether you trawl markets for pre-loved clothing in need of repair, or simply want to update your existing wardrobe.  You can take it one step further by not just mending, but creating fashionable, unique items of clothing by reworking your old ones.  The book’s not just for experienced seamstresses either, I teach you how to sew with easy to follow instructions, step-by-step artworks and three free full-size pull-out patterns. I also give you advice on vintage clothes so you can make your wardrobe as unique and cost-effective as possible.

To celebrate the release, I’m running a competition to win one of 5 copies of my book.  To enter, all you have to do is one of the following: either follow my blog (pop your email address into the subscription box on the right hand side), follow me on Twitter or like my Facebook page.  Pop a comment below this post to tell me which and after midnight on 6th October, I’ll choose 5 winners at random.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did writing it.

Bristol Vintage

30 Sep

The lovely Ali at Bristol Vintage has posted about my book!

Read the full piece here.

Bristol Vintage is the place to go to for vintage crockery, bunting, jugs of wildflowers and wind-up gramophones.  They plan, design and style weddings, parties, picnics, media events and premieres.  They offer prop hire, can source vintage items for you and they run the annual, and incredibly popular Bristol Vintage Wedding Fair. I exhibited at the fair last year and loved it – tons of vintage gorgeousness for the discerning vintage crowd.  Everything from vintage-inspired veils to handmade shoes, and plenty of beautiful upscaled, reworked and designer dresses – right up my street. If you get a chance to go to next year’s Fair, I recommend it (and it’s not just for brides!).
